Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipsticks

If we had to talk about 'The One' in lipstick terms, I'd say the Clarins Rouge Prodige Lipsticks £18.00 would come prettttty close. They are billed as 'long wearing' and have a super wearable, glossy finish, with a nice pigmented and creamy formula. And in true Clarins fashion, they come wrapped up in some wonderfully classy packaging.

The shades I have are 115 Rosy Coral  and 104 Lilac Pink - both of which are perfect for us bold-lip-aphobes. They have a nice punch of colour but are still fairly subtle, making them easy to pair with almost any makeup look. Surprisingly out of the two, my favourite is 104 Lilac Pink - I love that it's actually quite an unusual colour and I don't think I have anything similar to it in my collection. As I mentioned they both have a lovely pigmentation to them. It's definitely not the full on colour saturation of a matte lipstick but it's certainly buildable and goes on nice and evenly.

The Rouge Prodige Lipsticks, despite their rather pigmented and glossy formula, feel pretty lightweight on the lips. They remind me of the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfectors - they have that smooth glossy consistency but with a tiny bit of tack to them. This tack is what gives the lipsticks that extra bit of staying power. Whilst Clarins describe them as long wearing, I would say they aren't ever going to outlast something like a matte red but they definitely last longer than other glossy lipsticks I've tried. 104 Lilac Pink has lasted through many of my lunches, becoming just slightly less glossy and pigmented.

So what stops the Rouge Prodige Lipsticks from being 'The One'? Firstly they aren't particularly moisturising on the lips, which is something I've just come to expect from a glossy finish. For example, if you're applying these on even slightly chapped lips you'll notice the pigment clinging to patches and not going on too evenly. I normally apply a really thin layer of lip balm beforehand and find that helps the shade go on smoother and more even. Having said that, the Rouge Prodiges aren't drying either, so paired with a touch of lip balm they work really well for me.

Also, depending on the shade you choose, you'll find a lot of micro-shimmer running through the bullet. Both 104 Lilac Pink and 115 Rosy Coral have some tiny gold flecks in them, which I don't really mind at all; but once the pigment has worn off you do get a little bit of glitter clinging on around your lip line (which doesn't look too cute). The micro-shimmer doesn't feel gritty but it's definitely noticeable when you press your lips together. It totally depends on which shade of the Rouge Prodige Lipsticks you choose, so you can totally side-step the whole micro-shimmer thing all together if you so wish.

Overall I think these are a beautiful, every-day, go-to lipstick formula. I've been carrying them both around in my handbag and haven't been using much else this last week. They are comfortable to wear, last a good 4 hours or so and paired with a light layer of lip balm you won't end up with any drying side effects either.  I'd say £18.00 is a great price point of them; you get the luxury of a more high end lipstick without an insane hit on your bank balance. What do you guys think of these shades? Have you ever tried any of the Rouge Prodiges?
