Review: CHANEL Rouge Allure in Coquette

We all know about blushers having the power to add life to your face. Well, CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick in 85 Coquette £25.00 is pretty much the lipstick equivalent. I bought this ages ago from Debenhams and recently it's having a bit of a revival in my daily makeup routine. I think it's the Clarins lipsticks I blogged about last week that have encouraged me to shun aside my peachy nudes - and I'm totally OK with that!

The packaging of the Rouge Allures is obvs absolutely to die for. I will never tire of the 'click' mechanism, where you push the double C logo at the top to release the outer casing. The shade itself is a beautiful balance between pink and coral with teeny tiny, blue-based magenta micro-shimmer running through. This means that while it's quite a warm shade, the blue shimmer helps reel it back to the neutral side of things. I think it would be the perfect pink for anyone with a NC25-30 skin tone, but judging by the reviews on MakeupAlley, it looks great on a whole host of different skin tones. I like to pair Coquette with the Rimmel Lipliner in Indian Pink £2.99, to play up the pink tones that little bit more.

Now the formula is almost everything you'd expect from a high end lipstick. It applies like smooth, smooth buttah. It doesn't drag on the lips and while you know it's there, it's by no means heavy or uncomfortable. It isn't opaque in one swipe, but is definitely buildable to a full on look. The only negative is it's staying power - around 2 or 3 hours tops. And I find it transfers easily onto everything I put my lips to, namely my mug of tea. I've read reviews on the darker, more vampy, shades in the Rouge Allure line and they seem to stay put for hours, so it seems wear time really does differ depending on which shade you choose.

Having re-discovered my love for this shade, it's just total sod's law that it's now discontinued. Of course it is. However, CHANEL recently renamed the shades in the Rouge Allure range, and I think that the closest shade to 85 Coquette looks like 91 Seduisante. I'd definitely reocmmend trying one of the Rouge Allures; they really are a dream to apply and the ultimate beauty treat. In the mean time I'll be using Coquette sparingly and keeping my eyes peeled for a dupe! Have you tried this shade? What's your favourite CHANEL lipstick?
